I tend to look to nature's design as the example to follow. I love seeing how plants and flowers grow towards the light, each leaf or petal turning to find the sun. It makes me happy when shrubs and bushes grow to fill the space that they find themselves in, spilling out from behind a fence in an exuberant way. I often stop and look at the way that vines can take rough or flat surfaces and soften them with a sinuous line.
My design approach tries to reflect how nature finds this balance. Leaves and flowers each have their place, with some that are bolder, and others that are more shy, hovering in the background. There's room for symmetry in my work, but also glimpses of wildness, freedom, and movement.
-Rachel
Rachel Kwan is the lead designer and founder of Euclid Design Co., a creative studio providing both full-service event floral design and copper backdrop structures. She founded Euclid Design Co out of a need to problem-solve for her own wedding in 2017, and that's where her passion for both flowers and making copper art was born! She grew up in a family of computer programmers and engineers, but headed down a greener, more flower-filled path that led to the eastern rim of the Beaver Valley.
Rachel's eye tends to find patterns in the things around her, and the patterns in nature are especially fascinating. Her design approach gathers together together clean, geometric elements with softer organic materials. Rachel enjoys working with clients to find out how flowers can put their special stamp on their wedding in a way that is personalized, authentic, and on-budget. She's creative but also practical, and looks to use local flowers wherever possible to help her clients bring the best of the Georgian Bay area to their celebration. Rachel places a high value on transparent communication and building a sense of partnership with her clients -- she believes working with her should feel like working with a trusted friend.
