Couple:

Jessica & Nicolas

Location:

Golden Legacy Venue, Grey Highlands

From the Photographer:

I'm super excited to feature this because the bride is my best friend and has been since we were 15 and it was personally so significant for me to document this wedding. It took place at an up and coming venue in Grey County that is owned by the bride & groom. This was the first Golden Legacy Venue wedding and there will be many more!

The styling and floral design of this wedding was executed perfectly with whimsical colour choices and a boho spirit. The pandemic forced the couple to have a smaller guest list which made for a more intimate sense and feeling during the day. It also was unique because the bride was expecting at the time and it showcases the beauty of not only two people getting married but the beginning of their story as a family. It speaks to the modern day and age and how relationships have changed significantly over the last few decades. To me that is beautiful!

From the Couple:

How did you choose your venue?: Our search for finding the perfect space to host our wedding, led us to leaving our life behind in Toronto and purchase the building previously used as the Maxwell United Church. We used the location to host our wedding and are working to convert the space into a special events venue. The building is a plaqued historic landmark in the Grey Highlands and we are currently in the progress of designating the building historically with the Grey Highlands Heritage Committee.

What was the most important thing for you for your wedding day?: It was important to me that the beautiful love Nicholas and I have found with each other was properly expressed visually. Choosing a photographer who was able to capture the emotion in our day, a florist who was able to accent our vision with perfect arrangements and a team who was able to provide our guests with the level of quality and dining experience we trust, led us to choosing Filled With Light Photography, Euclid Design, Oliver & Bonacini and White Roses Entertainment to create our perfect day.

Please describe any unique details from your day and why they were special to you: It was especially exciting for us to use our venue. I remember sitting in my office in Toronto going through MLS listings and stumbling across the one that inspired us to the point of leaving almost everything behind and starting this new chapter of our lives.

Being surrounded by our friends and family, in a space that literally changed the course of our lives, was one of the most surreal, yet beautiful experiences of our lives.

It is such an honour to be the stewards of the next chapter of a space that has held almost 200 years of promises couples have made together in matrimony. It was a unique experience to join them in saying our vows together.

What was the atmosphere you were trying to create?: We wanted a natural, beautiful and genuine experience. The vendors we chose all happen to be friends of mine, who I deeply respect professionally so the atmosphere generated a sense of authentic love coming from not only Nicholas and myself, but also all the hands that helped make our day as magical as we had imagined.

What area of your wedding did you splurge on? (what was your top priority): Venue, Photography, Food & Beverage and Florals. As a joke my father in law commented in the wedding speech he gave that this was perhaps the most expensive wedding imaginable because we had chosen to buy our venue opposed to renting it. I still chuckle remembering him saying that.

What area of your wedding did you save on?: Our situation was impacted by the current pandemic. Unfortunately we were unable to invite loved ones we would have otherwise had attend. Due to this fact alone we saved on having a smaller attending guest list.

What was your biggest challenge in the planning process?: Covid-19 and the ever changing restrictions that came along with the pandemic.

What wedding advice would you give to someone planning their wedding now?: Plan in advance and make sure you invest in quality vendors. A wedding is one of the most important days of a persons life and it’s important to invest in those who care deeply about putting excellence into the work they do.

What was your most memorable moment of the day?: Our first kiss as husband and wife.
