Surprise Announcement: Welcome Rachel to the team!

We have some really very exciting news from behind the scenes at Georgian Bay Bride! Ashley & I have been working hard behind the scenes to implement some changes and increase our ability to serve you, our readers. In order to do that, we decided that we needed to add to our team.

You already know her. You already adore her. Please join us in welcoming Rachel to GBB. She’s been quietly working with us for a couple weeks now and we’re so flipping excited to officially announce that Rachel has joined us as our Advertising Manager. In true small business fashion, she’ll be helping us tackle all kinds of other things as well, but she’ll be the person you speak to when joining our directory. Look out for her emails in your inbox, or if you’ve been thinking of joining the directory but you’re not quite sure yet… shoot us an email and start the conversation with Rachel.

We have already been absolutely loving working with Rachel and we know how lucky we are to have her perspective, expertise and brilliant ideas. We are very much looking forward to continuing to grow with Rachel at our side.

Welcome Rachel!!

Please introduce yourself

Hi, I’m Rachel Kwan! I’m so excited to join the GBB team.

Typically, you’d find me designing wedding flowers for couples. I usually offer full-service floral design, from ceremony setups to wedding party flowers to reception florals. I also build ceremony backdrops out of copper pipe. Of course, 2020 has rearranged all of our schedules! In my new normal, I’m bundling up beautiful local flowers and delivering them to customers throughout the south Georgian Bay area.

In my past life, I worked in innovation strategy and digital marketing in downtown Toronto. When I first started coming to the area, I focused on the rock -- I spent time rock-climbing on the Niagara Escarpment. My husband and I fell head-over-heels for the Beaver Valley, and we ended up buying a house here in 2018. The decision to move here full-time is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I love being nestled on the Escarpment, but also having access to rivers and the bay. In my spare time, I’m learning how to paddle a canoe and cast a fishing line. Most mornings, you’ll find me in the garden, counting how many zucchini will need picking. I’m also slowly discovering an obsession with pickling vegetables. So far I’ve pickled cucumbers, radishes, beets, celery, carrots, spruce tips...

What do you love about GBB?

I love Georgian Bay Bride because it is such a passionate reflection of what I love about my home. Georgian Bay Bride is more than a directory of amazing local vendors (though trust me, I think this is incredibly valuable!). What sets GBB aside for me is the way that it amplifies the stories about why people should get married here, why it is an inspiring place for couples to celebrate love. Why it is an astonishing place for vendors to call home. GBB shares so many reasons why this area is unique and full of talented people ready to help you get married in the most memorable way possible.

Why are you excited to join the team?

I’m excited to join the GBB team because I believe in the vision, the work, and the community. I am so happy to share more about what lights my heart on fire about celebrating love in the Georgian Bay area. I’m also looking forward to connecting with new vendors that I might not have met yet. I want you to be part of this community.

What are you hoping to add to the team?

I’m hoping that my oddball brain can complement the skills of these wonderful ladies who have been at the helm for the past year! I’m very much a timeline and process-oriented person, so hopefully, we can put those skills to use. If you’re a vendor in the area, you’ll also start hearing from me pretty soon. I’m passionate about the numbers and creative sides of my business and I want to bring that to your business too. I want you to see me as a resource and someone you can reach out to for ways to highlight your work.

Any projects with GBB that you would like to hint at?

I’ve been thinking a lot, and I mean a lot, about micro weddings and elopements. I’m thinking about how a smaller group is an opportunity to be creative when it comes to how and where to celebrate, rather than a sacrifice. If this is me dropping a juicy hint -- and yes, that’s what I’m doing! -- I would keep a close eye on the GBB Instagram in the coming weeks. We are definitely working on creating a memorable experience that focuses on you and the person you love. Honestly, it’s so good it makes me want to get married again.
