About Us

Where we started…

Georgian Bay Bride

As recent transplants from the city, we had fallen in love with the area. Everything about it was magical, and we were noticing so many couples realizing the same thing as us. Most of our weddings were couples from the city choosing to head north to say I do with Georgian Bay as their backdrop. The next thing we noticed was that many of our couples were at a loss when it came to local businesses, so the idea was simple: Let’s find a way to share local talent with couples getting married in an area they don’t live, and so Georgian Bay Bride was born.
It started off as just an Instagram account, but quickly grew to a blog so we could dive deeper and tell more of the story. We wanted to introduce people to the beauty that lies just north of the city, and to connect them with local talent. As we grew, we knew we needed extra help to make our vision come to life, so we added Rachel to the team.
Together we have been showcasing local talent, sharing real weddings, and giving tips and advice since 2019.

Georgian Bay in Love

Georgian Bay in Love showcases local stories and talented people so that you can feel confident choosing this gem of a region as the place to celebrate your love. We’re equal parts (wedding) blog, travel guide, local business directory, and totally excited about this special place. From Parry Sound to Southampton, Collingwood to Tobermory, and everywhere in between, we think this area offers so many amazing options for weddings, vow renewals, anniversary celebrations, engagement trips, and even honeymoons. With most destinations less than two hours from the hubbub of the big city, we’re a place for vibrant celebrations that’s practically in your backyard.

Behind Georgian Bay in Love is a small but mighty team, all creative entrepreneurs who own and run their own businesses. We’ve been blogging for over two years, bringing you fresh content weekly and a real wedding story every month. Get inspired as you browse our social media accounts and see people celebrating their love, surrounded by the idyllic landscapes and wide-open waters and spaces in the region. Our passion for talented local people and businesses shines through as we introduce you to (or help you get reacquainted with!) folks who can’t wait to help you put together your special day. Come along on the journey with us! We can’t wait to share some pretty amazing love stories with you.

Update - 2022

At this time, we have had to press pause on the blog and social media feed so that our team can pursue other adventures; new businesses, children, etc. We are still adding local talent to the website to connect you with the right people. This place still lives because we believe so strongly in what we created and how much people are still getting from the content we created and the content we have shared. If you have any questions, or would like to be added to the listing, please email Frances at hello@francesbeatty.com

Our Team

Ashley Kimmel

Production Manager

Hello, I’m Ashley! I am the owner and floral designer behind Ashley Elaine Florals. I specialize in wedding and event florals, offering full-service designs. I also run a flower subscription and have created a plant bar at The Georgian Bay Artisan Shop to help bring more greenery into people’s lives.

When I’m not sketching or creating flower arrangements for my clients, I love trying my hand at gardening, taking in the natural outdoor beauty, or exploring the amazing shops and businesses in the Georgian Bay area. I also have an incredible collection of indoor plants so I can be surrounded by what I love all the time. I’ve lived here for 6 years and I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home for myself or for my business.

I am the Production Manager, but when it comes to Georgian Bay Bride, you’ll also find me doing communications, admin, accounts, copy editing, content creation & strategy.

Frances loughead

Editor-in-Chief

ohhi! I’m Frances. I’m a full-time photographer and owner of Frances Beatty Photography. I take on the role of an active observer as a portrait and wedding photographer and absolutely love crafting an amazing experience for my clients, rather than just kick-ass photos (they get those too).

I am not nearly as serious as I look in almost every single photo of me. I just can’t seem to crack a smile for the camera. I have called the Beaver Valley home for over 7 years and can’t imagine being anywhere else. Between the beautiful landscape, the access to outdoor activities, and the incredible community, it’s the home I’ve always wanted. I spend my free time rock climbing, paddling, trail running, foraging for delicious things, and having kitchen dance parties either solo or with my new baby boy. Yes, I joined the sourdough bandwagon, and yes salad is my friend.

I’m the good ole Editor-in-Chief, but I do a lot of things around here. It’s a small business, after all! I’m also the art director, a writer, and I’m the one you’re chatting with on Instagram. Which means I’m also the one responsible for silly or cheeky captions. You’re welcome?

Rachel Kwan

Advertising Manager

Hi, I’m Rachel! Typically, you’ll find me designing wedding flowers for couples for my business Euclid Design Co. I offer full-service floral design, including handmade ceremony backdrops out of copper pipe. I also bundle up beautiful local flowers and deliver them to customers throughout the south Georgian Bay area.

In my past life, I worked in innovation strategy and digital marketing in downtown Toronto. I love being nestled on the Escarpment, but also having access to rivers and the bay. My husband and I fell head-over-heels for the Beaver Valley, and we ended up buying a house here in 2018. The decision to move here full-time is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Most mornings, you’ll find me in the garden, counting how many zucchini will need picking. I’m also slowly discovering an obsession with pickling vegetables. So far I’ve pickled cucumbers, radishes, beets, celery, carrots, spruce tips...

I’m the advertising manager, so if you’re interested in joining the directory, I’ll be the one you’re chatting with. I will also be working on business development, content strategy, content creation, promotions, and marketing.
