Supporting local in the face of a pandemic - Covid-19

A blog in the time of Covid

Well, the unprecedented has occurred. We are in the midst of a pandemic and uncertainty is the new normal. I for one am not a fan. How bout you? Are you a fan? I didn’t think so. This whole social distancing thing (which is really physical distancing, because I am certainly far more social today than typically), can feel rather lonely. We want you to know that you aren’t alone. We are thinking of you!

Our hearts are going out to everyone who is affected by this. Which really is everyone. We are especially thinking about those on the front lines in health care, emergency services and essential services like those re-stocking the shelves at grocery stores. I will say this until I am blue in the face THANK YOU! WE APPRECIATE YOU!!!

As this is a wedding blog, we would be remiss if we did not also mention that we are thinking about all of the couples who are dealing with this head on. Wondering if the day they’ve been planning for weeks, months, years, is going to happen as they planned it, or even at all. If social distancing wasn’t a thing I was strictly following (which we all should be), I would offer you a giant hug. Please take this virtual one.

I keep trying to keep in mind that this is temporary. We will get through this. Dark will meet the light. I hope we all are able to hang onto compassion for those around us and for ourselves throughout this, and to keep kindness close to our hearts. Have a little extra patience for the person on the other end of the line answering questions about mortgage deferrals. Genuinely smile at the pharmacist who is frazzled that they can’t find your prescription. I have been waving at every single person I see right now. It’s an east coaster thing. If you can offer to do something, anything, do. It will make your heart happy and bring joy to someone else. Consider things like donating blood, or offering to pick up groceries for your elderly neighbour, or support your local businesses who are scared to death that they are watching the slow death of the business they have worked so hard to create. I know we are all facing financial uncertainties, and extra money is not floating around right now, but if you’re going to buy it anyway…

Some of the ways you can support local businesses without affecting your pocketbook:

  • Leave positive reviews for them on google, facebook, wherever you can find them

  • Like, comment, share their social media posts

  • If you’ve recently gotten married or had an engagement shoot, share some of your favourite images on your social media platforms and talk about the amazing experience you had working with these individuals

  • Tell your friends about us when they mention they’re getting married

  • Say hi. We’re all basically living like hermits right now. I know I like receiving messages, and sending them

If you’re planning on purchasing anyway, here are some amazing local businesses to support:

This list is in no way complete, but we’re trying to keep on top of who is keeping things going. Please keep in mind that things are changing SO rapidly, so please check in with these suppliers to ensure they can still serve you. Even after this is all over, you can still support these amazing vendors!
