Five Fresh Events this April - The Quarantine Edition

Frances Beatty grey county landscape photographer

If you’ve been following along, you would have noticed that on the last Monday of every month we do a Five Fresh Events blog post in which we point out five events taking place in the Georgian Bay region that we think you should attend. Since we’re all cooped up at the moment, we thought that would just be plain mean to point out events you would be missing out on. Not that any of them are taking place anyway. So! Rather than just ignore this post, we decided to reach out to our wonderful vendors to ask them how they’re occupying their time in isolation.

1. What activity are you doing while in lockdown?
I'm baking a lot with my son Jude, we try something new every day
2. What are you trying to learn in isolation?
I'm trying to learn to be still, physically and mentally, just for a little while
3. What are you watching?
I've been watching The Office with my kids, so cringy and inappropriate now on so many levels but hilarious. They think it was SO long ago that its a little pride wounding but also adds to the humour
4. What are you listening to?
I'm listening to the podcast Swindled a lot. The narrator's understated humour is AMAZING and the stories are all true and fascinating
5. What are you reading?
I am anxiously awaiting The Testaments, and Bianca Marais If You Want to Make God Laugh. I heard her read at the Dunedin literary festival this summer and fell in love. Her other book Hum if you Don't Know the Words did not disappoint. What I really wish is she had narrated her own audio books because I want her to read the whole thing to me.
6. What is the weirdest thing you’ve eaten?
I photographed and then made curd from a granadilla. Beautiful and delicious with the most delicate flavour and scent.
7. What is the first thing you’re going to do when you’re allowed out?
Beach dinner with my guys and anyone else who will come! Also hug everyone I can reach as soon as that's allowed.

1. What activity are you doing while in lockdown?
I’m shooting, editing, dancing, meditating and exercising a ton. Gotta make sure I don’t lose all my progress for Vertical Fit! I’ve also started doing website reviews for other creatives and writing postcards.
2. What are you trying to learn in isolation?
Mindset shifts. I’m always learning, but this is one I’m focusing on a lot. It’s been very helpful during this whole traumatic experience.
3. What are you watching?
We just finished Tiger King, and I think my brain needs a break for a bit.
4. What are you listening to?
A wide range of things. Last night was experimental jazz, yesterday was classical, today it’s all connected to Radiohead. I have also been listening to a lot of podcasts. On Being, In Our Time and This American Life in particular.
5. What are you reading?
The Witches by Roald Dahl. He’s a favourite and it’s a favourite story, but I had never read the book.

I have been craving and eating a lot of chocolate. This is not weird for most, but it is for me. I’m a salad girl.

HUUUUUUUUG so many people. Probably starting with Ashley.
