Couple:

Alexis & Ryan

Location:

Collingwood, Ontario

From the Photographer:

I think right now brides could use some encouragement, and Alex's wedding reminds them that you don't need to have tons of people to celebrate love! Ryan and Alex said "I Do" in front of their family and a handful of their closest friends, they married in their living room and finished the night at Crow Bar. Everything from the bride's bright purple hair to her gold sequin dress made this wedding so unique. Or perhaps that she and Ryan married in front of a handful of their closest friends and family in their living room. Every detail was just so intimate and special. Their two girls walked down the stairs before Alex, and they said "I do" in front of their fireplace. When I arrived, Alexis was putting the final touches on her wedding cake, that she made! It was an absolute privilege to be able to also attend the wedding as a close friend. I have grown up with Alexis and known her since I was 12 and so it's been a joy to photograph her family as it grows and of course her extremely special day.

From the Couple:

What was the most important thing for you for your wedding day?

Love. It sounds silly, but really, it was just about the celebration of our love.

Please describe any unique details from your day and why they were special to you.

We eloped at home with only our immediate family and closest friends. We had already been living together for 10 years, with 2 children, the time was just never right for a big wedding. Then when we hit our 10 year mark, it felt right to seal our relationship and celebrate our love by eloping.

I made our cake, and did all the flower arrangements myself. I got my dress from a custom creator on Etsy, and my friends helped with hair, makeup and decor. My husband's family played our ceremony music, and it was so special to be able to have our daughters as our flower girls!

What was the atmosphere you were trying to create?

I wanted our wedding to be intimate, casual, and not take itself too seriously.

What area of your wedding did you splurge on?

The most important thing for me was my dress. I always dreamed of a golden dress, and it was surprisingly hard to find! I'm glad I was able to connect with someone through Etsy who could give me what I wanted for under $500

What area of your wedding did you save on?

We saved the most on a venue, obviously, since we had our ceremony at home and reception at a bar.

What wedding advice would you give to someone planning their wedding now?

Maybe don't make your own cake lol

What was your biggest challenge in the planning process?

Finding my dress was a bit of a challenge, but apart from that it all came together fairly easily as it was so simple.
