Elopement at Killbear Provincial Park

Couple:

Jessica & Merriah

Location:

Killbear Provincial Park

From the Photographer:

The original plan for these two was to have a wedding with all their friends and family but COVID changed everything. When I suggested having some fun and going up to Killbear, one of Ontario’s most EPIC locations for scenery, to explore with just the two of them they jumped at the opportunity!

I'm excited about featuring this elopement because it showcases two incredible humans who said YES to each other and starting over together even in the face of adversity and never ending unknowns.

From the Couple:

How did you choose your venue?:

After planning and having to cancel three different wedding dates, we decided to elope! Once the decision was made, we left the location up to our amazing photographer, who we knew would pick an epic spot! She ended up picking Killbear, which was so perfect for us, as our favourite summer activity is camping at Ontario Parks!

What was the most important thing for you for your wedding day?:

Being present and soaking up every moment of the day.

Please describe any unique details from your day and why they were special to you:

Both Jessica and I absolutely love camping! So, we brought our matching Roots sweats combo, and changed into them to have a few pictures taken with them on, like true northern women!

What was the atmosphere you were trying to create?:

We wanted the day to feel intimate and the pictures to show our love in its raw, natural form.

What area of your wedding did you splurge on? (what was your top priority):

With having to cancel so many of our planned wedding dates, the one thing we could not budge on was our photographer. She did our engagement pictures, and we simply could not imagine the day without her!

What area of your wedding did you save on?

Pretty much all of it ;)

What wedding advice would you give to someone planning their wedding now?:

Stay in touch with the things that are most important. Be present, don't overthink too much and be realistic about planning a wedding in an ever-changing world!

What was your most memorable moment of the day?:

Our photographer is very bold and brave with her art, which led us to some amazing, though terrifying cliff shots. Let us just say that neither of us will forget trying to climb into and out of those locations in our wedding attire without falling off the edge! We also had some pretty great water shots, which thanks to some algae, were also more adventurous than we expected.

What was your biggest challenge in the planning process?:

The biggest challenge was navigating planning a wedding through a pandemic! We went from planning a tropical wedding, to a more traditional one, then a micro wedding... and finally, an elopement!

Did anything go wrong on your wedding day? How did you handle it?:

Everything was perfect! The only real concern we had going into the day, was whether or not the weather was going to be on our side. The forecast had thunderstorm warnings all day. Thankfully, the universe listened and gave us a hot and sunny August day!

What was your first dance song?:

Dancing in the Moonlight - Toploader

Is there anything you would do differently if you could go back in time?:

Absolutely nothing!
