Engagement session at summer solstice at the top of the Beaver Valley

Couple:

Lauren & Josh

Location:

Beaver Valley

From the Photographer:

Lauren chose the spot for their engagement session which means a ton to both of them. It's a forest close to her family's chalet and she has spent a lot of time in among the trees, finding a grounding space. She even has a special tree that she hugs every time she's there. A year before their engagement session (to the day) Josh proposed at that tree during their summer solstice sunrise hike. I love this session with Lauren & Josh because it showcases their love for and the natural beauty around the Beaver Valley.

From The Couple:

How did you choose the location for your session?: This spot on the escarpment was the spot Josh proposed on the summer solstice one year prior to our engagement photo session with Frances. It is also the same spot I had a portrait session with Frances in 2018. This space has what my family and I call the enchanted forest, a beautiful winding trail through larch trees and one tree in particular that I have connected with over the years. It was an easy choice for our engagement photos!

How did you two meet?: We met in the fall of 2014 at teachers college in Toronto. He and I connected on the first day of orientation, and struck up conversation with me over my backpack that is covered in flag patches from places I’ve travelled to.

How did you fall in love?: We spent the year following our meeting dating and getting to know each other. We fell into a rhythm quickly, with a lot of laughter and ease. Josh shared he loved me on a frozen sunrise watching morning in February. We have shared sunrises together ever since.

What's your favourite thing about them?: It’s hard to choose just one! I admire his focus on bringing love into each moment, whether it be in our relationship, as an attitude throughout his day, in his communication and in his actions. He chooses to be rooted in love.

When/where did they propose?: Josh proposed at sunrise on the summer solstice in 2019, right beside my special larch tree. It was perfect.
