COUPLE

Grace & Mike

Location

Georgian Peaks Ski Club

From the Photographer:

Meeting Grace & Mike for the first time was like breathing a breath of fresh air. From the very moment Grace & I talked, I knew I liked them. She had such a warmth to her and it was almost like she was singing as she spoke. We met up months before the wedding for their engagement session and explored caves together. I was completely struck by how much they melted into each other the moment they were close. They were like puzzle pieces that glide together perfectly. After spending the evening with them, I had a feeling their wedding would be an emotional one, but I’m not entirely sure I was prepared for just how beautifully tear jerking it would be. There was not a single dry eye during the ceremony, including mine!

From the Couple:

What was the most important thing for you for your wedding day?: We wanted to throw our guests a great party!

Describe any unique details from your day and why they were special to you: My sister made our wedding cake with 3 tiers - mint chocolate, white chocolate with raspberry filling, and chocolate with cookies and cream filling. We saved the mint chocolate chip tier to enjoy on our first anniversary! And of course, taking the chairlift to the top of the mountain was such a thrill and our guests loved it!

What area of your wedding did you splurge on? (what was your top priority): Photography (we wanted to have lots of photographic memories since everyone said the day goes by in a blur, and they were right), florals and food/drink.

How did you choose your venue?: We wanted a venue where we could do an outdoor ceremony, photos, and reception all in the same place and didn't find any options that fit our guest list and budget in Toronto. We started thinking outside the box and when the idea was floated about having the ceremony at the top of the mountain, we knew we had to have the wedding at the Peaks. My family has been skiing there for decades and it is a special place for us.

What was the atmosphere you were trying to create?: Rustic-chic - the reception was in a ski lodge, after all!

What was your biggest challenge in the planning process?: It's easy to get bogged down with choice and comparison when planning a wedding - one look at Pinterest will tell you that! I had to force myself to stop looking at other options after I had already made a decision, like unfollowing wedding dress accounts because I knew I loved my dress and didn't want to have any unnecessary buyer's remorse.

What was your most memorable moment of the day?: Coming up over the ridge on the chairlift and seeing Mike at the end of the aisle and all our guests ready to celebrate with us.

What wedding advice would you give to someone planning their wedding now?: Hire a wedding coordinator! It was so nice to be able to enjoy the day and not have to worry about how it was going to run. I would also definitely suggest doing an engagement photo session, especially if you are nervous about having your photo taken - it really helped break the ice and it was great to meet and get to know Frances before the big day.

What area of your wedding did you save on?: Decor - I decided to save on reception decor because I figured once the party gets going, no one is going to notice. The decor items I did splurge on I repurposed, such as a big wooden sign I had made to cover up a sign at the top of the hill, which is now hanging on the wall of our chalet.

What was your first dance song?: Alicia Keys - If I Ain't Got You
