Couple:

Christena & Sam

Location:

Markdale, Ontario

From the Photographer:

Christena and Sam are honestly one of the happiest couples we have ever met! They are the kind of couple that can make everyone around them happy. On their wedding day we showed up at their home, where the wedding was taking place and our jaws dropped. The ceremony location by their pond was STUNNING and the tent they had set up for the reception was beautiful. We loved that during the reception Christena and Sam set aside time for us to do a sunset photoshoot. Every detail at Christena & Sam’s wedding was as close to perfect as it can get! We are so grateful to have met them!

From the Couple:

How did you choose your venue?: We both wanted an outdoor wedding and Sam suggested we get married at our home. At first I thought he was crazy, but once we started planning and getting to work, we had so much fun with it! The best part about having our wedding at home, is that we get to enjoy the space we created forever.

What area of your wedding did you splurge on? (what was your top priority): We definitely splurged on our food! We both love southern barbecue and knew that we had to have it for our wedding food! It was a really fun environment with Northbound Barbecue serving our guests straight from the smoker & we loved seeing our guests faces when Paco's Taco's pulled up to serve the late night snack!

What area of your wedding did you save on?: We saved a lot on decor. Having an outdoor wedding is so simple and beautiful!

What was the atmosphere you were trying to create?: We wanted to create a Glam/vintage, garden wedding! We both wanted an outdoor wedding but still wanted it to feel classy/glamorous.

Please describe any unique details from your day and why they were special to you: Our wedding invitations! One of our oldest friends hand painted our wedding invitations. We wanted our invitations to be unique and personal, so she painted a stunning photo of our home.

What wedding advice would you give to someone planning their wedding now?: To have fun with it and to not stress over things you cannot control! It poured rain for the months leading up to our wedding, and there was nothing we could do about it. We rolled with the punches, got as much done outside as we could and the day of our wedding it was sunny and warm. We didn't even notice the little things that we couldn't get done in time.

What was your most memorable moment of the day?: Definitely the food & seeing all of our friends and family who came to celebrate with us having an awesome time on the dance floor! We also loved working with all of vendors, they made our day that much more special.

What was your biggest challenge in the planning process?: We really wanted the day to run care free & smoothly. The biggest challenge for us was working out the timeline for the day. We wanted everyone to enjoy themselves, so it took us a while to decide what time to start the ceremony/dinner.

What was your first dance song?: I Don't Dance - Lee Brice

What was the most important thing for you for your wedding day?: Food and for everyone to have a great time! We wanted our special day to be filled with things that were important to us. Love, family, laughter and delicious food.
